Canadian Pacific Kansas City set a new monthly record for grain shipments in June thanks to a massive backlog from a bumper 2025 harvest.

The Canadian railroad on Tuesday said that it transported 2.8 million metric tons of Canadian grain and grain products last month, beating its previous record set in June of 2020

Canadian Pacific also set a record for tonnage and carloads in April, May and June, beating previous highs also set in June 2020.

The success isn't just in Canada. Canadian Pacific said that its American network had its best June since 2022 and a strong overall second quarter.

Canadian Pacific wasn't the only railroad to enjoy a strong June month for grain delivers. Last week, Canadian National Railway also reported its strongest June since 2020, moving 2.67 million tons.

According to Statistics Canada, Canada is experiencing a backlog of grain from a bumper 2025 harvest, which left mid-season inventories bulging across Western Canada.

Total stocks of principal field crops are up 15.4% year-over-year and 19.3% above the five-year average, largely due to a record-breaking harvest from the 2025-2026 crop year.
