Nine Entertainment Reaches Seven Year Agreement for NRL, NRLW Broadcast Rights

Nine Entertainment (ASX:NEC) executed an agreement for National Rugby League (NRL) and National Women's Rugby League (NRLW) broadcast rights for the 2028 to 2034 seasons, according to a Tuesday Australian bourse filing.

Nine's annual cost in relation to the agreement will be AU$145 million, while the NRL committed to an annual spend of AU$10 million on advertising or other services. The agreement also includes a further AU$15 million per annum of contra to be provided.

Beginning with the 2028 season, Channel 9 and 9Now will live broadcast NRL matches in line with the current contract. Nine acquired the exclusive free-to-air and free streaming rights to broadcast three live NRL games per week, on Thursday evenings, Friday evenings, and Sunday afternoons, as well as the Finals series and Test Matches played in Australia.

The Grand Final and State of Origin will continue to be exclusively shown on Channel 9 and 9Now, with the State of Origin matches continuing to be broadcast on Wednesday evenings. The Women's State of Origin will also continue to be exclusively shown on Channel 9 and 9Now.

The acquired rights also include the exclusive Free-to-Air and free streaming rights to broadcast 33 live NRLW weekly games, as well as the Finals series.

Nine's shares rose 1% in recent trading on Tuesday.
