Coursera Cuts Jobs After Close of Udemy Merger

Coursera said Monday it will reduce its workforce as part of its integration of Udemy following the companies' merger, which closed in May.

The online-education company said the restructuring is intended to align its cost structure, operating model and personnel needs with its business objectives and operational priorities, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Coursera expects to incur between $8 million and $11 million in charges related to the workforce reduction, primarily for severance payments and healthcare benefits. The company said substantially all of the charges will be cash expenditures incurred during the third and fourth quarters of 2026.

The company added that it is pursuing broader operational efficiency and synergy initiatives related to the merger that could result in additional costs and benefits beyond those disclosed in the filing. The company did not specify which positions would be cut, nor how many.
