European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were tracking lower late Wednesday morning, falling 1.11% to 1,892.74 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.

From continental Europe, the gainers were led by petroleum refiner Equinor (EQNR) and oil and gas company Eni (E), which rose 2.4% each. They were followed by accommodations booking site trivago (TRVG) and pharmaceutical company Ascendis Pharma (ASND), which gained 1.7% and 0.7%, respectively.

The decliners from continental Europe were led by lender Banco Santander (SAN) and software company SAP (SAP), which fell 5.1% and 3.7%, respectively. They were followed by internet advertising company Criteo (CRTO) and biopharmaceutical company Cellectis (CLLS), which declined 3.5% and 1.1%, respectively.

The gainers from the UK were led by oil and gas company BP (BP) and biotech company Autolus Therapeutics (AUTL), which advanced 1.7% and 1.6%, respectively. They were followed by telecommunications company Vodafone Group (VOD) and educational publisher Pearson (PSO), which each gained 0.5%.

The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biotech company Trinity Biotech (TRIB) and pharmaceutical company Silence Therapeutics (SLN), which dropped 5.9% and 5.6%, respectively. They were followed by communications company WPP (WPP) and biopharmaceutical company Akari Therapeutics (AKTX), which fell 4.7% and 3.8%, respectively.
