Delta Air Lines CFO Says Refinery at 75% Throughput; 'tail of Outage' Expected into 3Q

Monroe Energy's 208,000 b/d Trainer, Pa., refinery is currently operating at 75% of of its throughput capacity following a June 25 fire, and the facility is expected to be affected by "a tail of outage" into the third quarter, Delta Air Lines Chief Financial Officer Erik Snell said Friday.

During Delta's earnings conference call, Snell told analysts that the outage negatively impacted the air carrier's Q2 financial results by 5cts per share.

Inclusive of the 5ct impact, the refinery still provided an 11ct per share benefit to Delta for Q2.

The refinery, which was bought by Delta Air Lines in 2012 and has been operated by its Monroe Energy subsidiary, supplies jet fuel to Delta's New York hubs including John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports.

The refinery in south Pennsylvania near Philadelphia also exchanges its non-jet fuel production like gasoline, diesel, propane and heating oil with other parties for additional jet fuel for its operations.

"The refinery is a strategic advantage for Delta, providing a meaningful offset in a high crack environment, and we expect 2026 to be one of its most profitable years," Snell said.

The refinery is expected to provide fuel benefit for Delta for the second half of this year, Snell said.

For Q2, Delta's adjusted fuel expense was $4.4 billion, up 77% compared with Q2 2025.

A fire broke out at an unspecified process unit's pump room at the refinery on June 25, which triggered a shelter-in-place order in nearby communities. At that time, Monroe said it would fully investigate the incident.

The Trainer refinery is one of the three remaining producing refineries in the New York Harbor spot market, the delivery point of NYMEX refined product futures.
