Fastenal notched a rise in quarterly earnings as the industrial distributor notched a fourth straight quarter of double-digit sales growth, thanks to a lift from its bigger customers.

The company recorded net income of $382.8 million, or 33 cents a share, for the second quarter. That was up on $330.3 million, or 29 cents, a year earlier and in line with the per-share earnings consensus forecast of analysts polled by FactSet.

Sales climbed 15% to $2.39 billion, topping the $2.34 billion that analysts had expected.

The company said daily sales increased 14.7% compared with a year prior, stemming from a mix of share gains by larger customers, pricing and broad-based demand across its core markets.

The company, which offers a range of fasteners, cutting tools and safety supplies, last week raised its quarterly cash dividend 8.3% to 26 cents a share. Fastenal returned $305 million to shareholders through dividends and share buybacks in the latest quarter, which it said represents 80% of net income.
