Kenvue/kimberly-clark Deal not in Jeopardy Despite Tylenol Ruling

Dow Jones
07/14

1450 ET - A ruling that litigation against Kenvue over alleged links between Tylenol and neurodevelopmental disorders can continue is a negative for the company, but probably doesn't jeopardize its acquisition by Kimberly-Clark, BNP Paribas analysts write in a note. They keep their neutral rating on the stock, "given the potential material liabilities if further proceedings result in a negative outcome for Kenvue." Still, they say new research supports Kenvue's view that no causal link exists between acetaminophen and neurodevelopmental disorders, especially ADHD and autism. "Importantly, we do not expect today's decision to derail the Kimberly-Clark acquisition deal," the analysts write. The ruling takes no view on the reliability of plaintiffs' expert witnesses that argue for a link, the analysts point out, but says those questions ought to be decided by a jury. Kenvue falls 1.8%; Kimberly-Clark is off 2.5%. (elias.schisgall@wsj.com)
