Analysts See 44 Billion-cubic-foot Rise in U.S. Natural Gas Inventories

U.S. natural gas inventories likely had a normal-sized build last week, leaving the storage surplus over the five-year average practically unchanged, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of analysts.

Natural gas in underground storage is expected to have increased by 44 billion cubic feet to 3,027 Bcf in the week ended July 10, according to the average estimate of 11 analysts, brokers and traders. Estimates range from an injection of 33 Bcf to an injection of 52 Bcf.

The expected build compares with the five-year average increase for the week of 45 Bcf, trimming the surplus by 1 Bcf to 184 Bcf. It would leave stocks 18 Bcf below their year-earlier level.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to release the weekly storage data on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
