New York City Council approved an 18% pay raise for elected officials, though Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he will decline the increase, Bloomberg News reported Thursday.

The 51 Council members, who currently earn $148,500 annually, will see salaries rise to $175,500, while the mayor's salary jumps to $305,800, according to the report.

The bill, approved 42-6, also raises salaries for district attorneys to $251,500, the comptroller to $247,100, the public advocate to $218,400, and borough presidents to $211,800. City Council Speaker Julie Menin, who abstained from the vote, said she also will not accept a raise during her current term, the report said.

The new salaries take effect in 45 days, retroactive to the start of the year, and are expected to cost the city $2.6 million this year and $17 million next year, according to the Council's analysis, Bloomberg reported.
