Foxconn Technology Co (TPE:2354) expects advanced autonomous driving technology to be adopted sooner than previously expected, according to a Nikkei report on Wednesday quoting Jun Seki, the company's chief strategy officer for electric vehicles.

Seki told the news agency that there has been a sharp rise in the reliability of autonomous driving technology, which indicates that "Level 4" autonomous driving, which allows a vehicle to operate without a driver under specific conditions, is coming sooner than expected.

He estimated that autonomous driving will become more affordable and reliable by 2030-2035, leading to more car companies offering such services, providing consumers with a wider range of choices, Nikkei said.

The electronic devices manufacturer aims to strengthen its EV business and has been manufacturing EVs for Taiwanese automaker Yulon Motor since 2023.
