Dow Jones
07/23

Shares of American Airlines declined Thursday after the carrier cut its full-year guidance and issued third-quarter expectations well below the consensus view as rising fuel costs hit the air carrier.

American Airlines stock fell 3.7% to $14.24 in premarket trading on Thursday, set to to move further away from its 50-day moving average.

The air carrier said Thursday that as the cost of fuel is once more increasing, it made the decision to revise its full-year outlook.

American Airlines forecasts 2026 earnings ranging from a loss of 65 cents to a profit of 65 cents. The company previously forecast a loss of 40 cents to a profit of $1.10 in 2026.

For the third quarter, American Airlines expects a loss of 70 cents to 10 cents. Wall Street forecasts a profit of 26 cents in the third quarter and earnings of 61 cents for the full year.

The guidance overshadowed solid second-quarter financial results.

American Airlines posted adjusted earnings of 15 cents a share, from 95 cents a year ago and above Wall Street's expectation of 3 cents. Revenue grew 16% to $16.74 billion, beating the analyst consensus call for $16.7 billion, according to FactSet.
