MEXICO CITY--Cement and building materials company Cemex posted higher second-quarter profit amid sales gains and record earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

Monterrey, Mexico-based Cemex posted net profit of $347 million or $0.24 an American depositary share for the April-June quarter. Profit rose 9% from $318 million in the year-earlier period.

Sales increased 12% to $4.59 billion, supported by higher prices in most regions. Cement sales by volume rose 1% to 11.3 million metric tons, aggregates volume fell 2% to 33 million tons and ready mix concrete volume was flat at 10.8 million cubic meters.

Cemex's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased by 24% to a record $1.02 billion. Ebitda was supported by organic growth in most regions, $42 million from a favorable one-off settlement of a claim in Europe, and $60 million in cost savings, Cemex said.

Cemex now expects Ebitda to rise by 16% or 17% this year, up from its previous guidance of high single-digit growth.

The company said it achieved 80% of the $400 million recurring savings target under its Project Cutting Edge by the second quarter, and has raised the savings target to $475 million. Most of the new savings are expected to be made in 2027.
