Alphabet, Tesla, IBM, Texas Instruments, and More Stocks That Explain Today's Market

Stock futures were sliding on Thursday as oil prices neared $100 a barrel, fueling fears that a flare-up in inflation will strengthen the case for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.

These stocks were making moves ahead of the opening bell:

Alphabet fell 4% after the Google parent beat analysts' second-quarter earnings target, but raised its forecast for capital expenditures once again as it plows money into artificial intelligence.

Tesla dropped 5.7% after the electric-vehicle manufacturer missed expectations for second-quarter earnings, even as deliveries jumped 25% from a year ago.

Texas Instruments declined 4.8% despite near-perfect results for the second quarter. The reaction may reflect investors' elevated expectations following a historic run for chip makers.

IBM slipped 0.2% after its second-quarter revenue missed expectations. Investors already had an idea what the numbers would look like, as a second-quarter earnings last week sparked a 25% slump in shares.

ServiceNow jumped 7.7% after the software company beat analysts' forecast for second-quarter earnings, helping ease fears about how artificial intelligence is disrupting its business model.

Nestlé tumbled 6.9% after the world's largest food company said it would sell half its water business to a private equity group, but reported a drop in profit for the first half of 2026 due to higher restructuring costs.

Comcast climbed 3.3% after the cable and entertainment company beat analysts' second-quarter earnings and revenue targets, even as its all-important broadband business bled more subscribers.
