Canada said it would no longer hold a celebratory event with the US for the opening of the new Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Detroit to Windsor, Ontario, after President Donald Trump promised new 50% tariffs against Canadian goods, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Canada still plans for the C$6.4 billion bridge to open on July 27, according to a spokeswoman for Canada's infrastructure minister cited by Bloomberg.

The spokeswoman said it would be inappropriate to proceed with a joint event in light of trade action threatened by the US, with Canadians instead celebrating "among Canadians" on July 24, the report said.
