Illinois Tool Works raised its full-year outlook after logging higher profit and revenue in the second quarter, as sales trends accelerated across multiple divisions.

The industrial-products and equipment maker said Tuesday it now expects earnings of $11.35 to $11.55 a share for the year. That compares with a prior forecast of $11.10 to $11.50 a share, as well as analyst views for $11.31 a share, according to FactSet.

The company also projected revenue growth of 4% to 5%, up from a previous outlook for growth of 2% to 4%. On an organic basis, revenue is now forecast to climb 3% to 4%, up from a prior range of 1% to 3%.

Chief Executive Christopher O'Herlihy said strong operational momentum gave the company confidence to raise its outlook.

For its three months ended June 30, Illinois Tool Works reported a profit of $815 million, up from $755 million a year ago. Quarterly earnings of $2.84 a share were in-line with Wall Street estimates.

Revenue rose 6.1% to $4.3 billion, ahead of analyst views for $4.19 billion.
