Fury Gold Mines said it has resumed exploration and drilling work at its site in the James Bay region of Northern Quebec after suspending activities due to nearby wildfires.

The Canadian miner said Monday that all staff have returned to the Eau Claire site and resumed field activities after getting the all-clear that conditions are suitable to safely restart work.

Fury Gold had taken the precautionary step in mid-July to suspend operations.

Canada has faced an active 2026 wildfire season, with nearly 4,200 fires burning roughly 3.7 million hectares nationwide by late July, according to data from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.

In Northern Quebec, dry conditions and lightning strikes have prompted periodic forest access restrictions, fire bans and precautionary operational suspensions across regional mining and exploration sites.

There are currently 123 active fires in the province.
