Ecolab raised its earnings outlook after increasing prices to offset higher commodity costs.

The water treatment company said Tuesday it now expects adjusted earnings per share will be $8.05 to $8.25 for the full year, up from a prior range of $8.03 to $8.23.

In the second quarter, Ecolab posted a profit of $534.9 million, or $1.90 a share, compared with $524.2 million, or $1.84 a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were $2.09, ahead of the $2.08 anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet.

Revenue rose 10% to $4.42 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast revenue of $4.39 billion.

Ecolab has been absorbing higher commodity costs, which prompted the company to implement an energy surcharge. The surcharge helped pricing increase 4%, which boosted revenue, Chief Executive Christophe Beck said.

Ecolab is now well positioned to offset commodity costs, as pricing in the second half of the year is expected to increase 5% to 6%, Beck said.

Volume also increased 1%, despite a nearly 1% headwind from customer operations being disrupted by the Iran war.

Ecolab forecasts third-quarter adjusted earnings per share will be $2.13 to $2.23, compared with the $2.18 analysts are projecting.
