U.S. Natural Gas Futures Extend Losses

Dow Jones
07/28

1500 ET - Natural gas futures fall for a third straight session with solid production and comfortable inventories weighing on prices despite strong electricity-sector use. "Natural gas-fired power demand has climbed sharply, but the market is seeing less price response than it might have in prior summers because wind, solar, and battery output are absorbing more of the incremental electricity load," Gelber & Associates says in a note. That has kept storage builds above expected levels even during some of the hottest weather, the firm adds. Nymex natural gas for August delivery settles down 3.6% at $2.767/mmBtu.
