Sony Group is scheduled to report first-quarter results on Friday. Here is what you need to know:

NET PROFIT: Sony Group's first-quarter net profit is estimated to have risen 1.4% to 262.6 billion yen, equivalent to $1.61 billion, for the three months ended June, according to a poll of analysts by Visible Alpha. Net profit was Y259.03 billion a year earlier.

REVENUE: Revenue is expected to have increased 3.5% to Y2.713 trillion, according to Visible Alpha.

The stock has fallen 5.3% year to date, dragged by concerns about higher costs of memory chips used in game consoles. The stock has also been weighed by worries that consumers will spend more time using generative artificial-intelligence tools rather than playing videogames or watching movies.

WHAT TO WATCH:

--Sony has projected revenue to decline 1.4% to Y12.300 trillion and net profit to climb 12.5% to Y1.160 trillion for the fiscal year ending March 2027. Investors will be focusing on any changes management may make to the annual forecasts.

--Fourth-quarter operating profit for its game business fell 42% to Y54.10 billion as revenue declined. Sony sold 1.5 million PlayStation 5 units in the first three months of 2026, down from 2.8 million in the year-earlier period. Investors will be closely watching the performance of Sony's key segment.

--Sony said Thursday that offered to acquire Japanese camera-lens maker Tamron, as part of efforts to strengthen its camera business. Investors will pay attention to any updates on the proposal.
