Australian Credit Growth yet to Buckle

0345 GMT - Australian private sector credit rose 0.8% in June from May, beating the expected increase of 0.6%. Housing credit held steady with growth of 0.6% over the month, though early signs of softening are emerging with three-month and annual growth rates beginning to turn lower, says Tom Ryan, economist at JP Morgan. Credit growth has yet to show a material deceleration following consecutive RBA hikes this year, but this doesn't alter the view that the cash rate is restrictive and financial conditions have tightened, Ryan adds. Housing is expected to lead any downturn following changes that curb incentives to invest in property.
