Merck's (MRK) Ebola vaccine, Ervebo, may be evaluated to help protect frontline healthcare workers against the Bundibugyo strain driving the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bloomberg reported Friday.

According to the report, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention plans to present evidence to WHO advisers next week supporting studies of whether Merck's Ervebo vaccine can provide partial protection against the Bundibugyo Ebola virus.

Africa CDC has submitted research protocols for regulatory and ethical approval in Congo, including a proposed study involving about 20,000 healthcare workers, Bloomberg added.

Merck did not respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
