AT&T said its 5G home internet service, AT&T Internet Air, reached 2 million subscribers, doubling its subscriber count in about a year.

The company said it took about half the time to reach its second million subscribers compared with the first.

AT&T reported last week that its second-quarter revenue ticked up to $31.6 billion, as more customers signed up for its postpaid phone and internet services.

Josh Goodell, vice president of broadband product development, said the milestone reflects the importance of AT&T Internet Air, especially when paired with AT&T wireless, in customer satisfaction.

The company said that customers that combine internet air with a wireless plan can receive home internet for a low of $35 a month.

Starting next month, customers will also be able to order internet air in stores and take their equipment home on the spot to make the experience simpler, AT&T said.

The changes are part of a broader push to expand its customer base. AT&T launched Build-a-Plan in May, which starts at $15 a month, compared with the $50 price tag on a single line from the carrier before. The plan contains options to add more data and other features such as wireless hotspotting and home internet. The customizable structure and low price makes it more appealing for customers to go into plans alone rather than in family packages.
