Lupin Ltd. said it launched a generic version in the U.S. of a Merck & Co. injection which reverses the effects of certain muscle relaxants after receiving approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

The Mumbai drugmaker on Thursday said the FDA approved its abbreviated new drug application for Sugammadex Injection in 200 mg/2 mL and 500 mg/5 mL single-dose vials.

Lupin said the product is bioequivalent to Merck's Bridion and is indicated for reversing neuromuscular blockade induced by rocuronium bromide and vecuronium bromide in adults and children aged 2 years and older undergoing surgery.

The launch comes roughly a week after President Trump said the U.S. would begin imposing tariffs on imported generic pharmaceuticals in August 2028, with the rate rising to 100% initially and 200% a year later, after a two-year transition period intended to encourage drugmakers to move manufacturing to the U.S.
