HSBC (HSBC) may increase its bonus pool for bankers if strong business momentum continues through the H2 of 2026, Chief Executive Georges Elhedery said during the bank's Q2 earnings media call, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Elhedery said a higher bonus pool would reward stronger performance and have only a modest impact on costs, as variable pay accounts for about 10% of the bank's total expenses, according to the report.

The remarks followed HSBC's better-than-expected Q2 results, which included a new share buyback program and a higher cost-cutting target, Bloomberg added.

In a statement emailed to MT Newswires, HSBC CEO, Georges Elhedery said: "We have seen strong business performance, strong momentum, and growth across all our lines of business. Should we continue to see this momentum carry forward into the second half, then we would certainly consider to reward our colleagues for their increased performance by adjusting the variable pay pool upwards."
