MasTec Slides on 2Q Adjusted EPS Miss, 3Q and Fiscal-Year Revenue Views Below Estimates

Shares of MasTec slipped after the company's second-quarter adjusted earnings per share missed expectations and guided for revenue for the current quarter and fiscal-year below estimates.

The infrastructure engineering and construction company's stock was down over 18%, to $266.74, Friday afternoon, but has gained 23% since the start of the year.

MasTec reported net income of $130.1 million, or $1.65 a share, compared with $85.8 million, or $1.09 a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were $2.22. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $2.23.

Revenue rose 23%, to $4.37 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $4.3 billion.

For the fiscal year, MasTec forecast revenue of $18.2 billion, below analyst expectations of $18.38 billion, according to FactSet.

The Coral Gables, Fla., company also guided for third-quarter revenue of $4.93 billion, under the $5.06 billion expected by analysts polled by FactSet.

Chief Executive Jose Mas said the company closed on its acquisition of The Superior Group, a full-service electrical contractor, last week. He added that MasTec's second-quarter earnings reflect the strength of its diversified operating model.
