Ferguson Enterprises will be added to the S&P 500 index at the start of trading on Aug. 5, S&P Dow Jones Indices said. The plumbing and HVAC supplies distributor will replace Electronic Arts, which is set to go private next week in a $55 billion buyout by an investor consortium led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Shares rose 10% to $257.80 in after-hours trading.

Amazon.com reported accelerating cloud-computing sales in its latest quarter, with higher-than-expected revenue from Amazon Web Services. The company is also investing more in data centers to serve cloud customers, raising its capital expenditures forecast for the year to $220 billion, a $20 billion increase. Shares closed 15% higher at $271.58.

Apple's forecast for the current quarter fell short of Wall Street's expectations, overshadowing strong iPhone and Mac sales that the company reported for its latest quarter. The disappointing forecast is partly due to supply constraints that have made it difficult for the company to meet demand for iPhones, Macs and iPads, and which are expected to get worse in the September quarter. The stock closed down 7.4% at $308.91.

Private-equity firm KKR is near a deal to take medical-device outsourcing company Integer Holdings private, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The deal, which could come as soon as next week, would value the Plano, Texas-based company at roughly $127 a share, the people said. Shares of Integer closed up 20% higher at $121.21.
