Toyota Motor Corp. plans to produce about 10.5 million vehicles worldwide in 2027 and has notified its major parts suppliers of this plan, according to sources.

The company intends to meet strong demand for hybrid vehicles. If the plan proceeds as scheduled, production is expected to exceed the 10.03 million units produced in 2023, setting a new record.

Toyota projects that, for the fiscal year ending March 2027, the number of hybrids produced by Toyota -- including under the Lexus brand -- will exceed 5 million units for the first time. In key markets such as Europe and Japan, hybrids are on track to consistently account for more than 50% of all Toyota vehicles. To meet this strong demand, the company has also announced plans to switch to high-performance, low-cost next-generation batteries for about 600,000 hybrids between 2027 and 2028.

On the other hand, production volume for 2026 is expected to be about 9.9 million units -- a slight decrease from the plan announced at the end of last year, reflecting sluggish sales in China and other factors.
