Hong Kong Stocks Open Lower as Tech Weakness Weighs

Hong Kong stocks opened lower on Thursday as weakness in technology shares outweighed easing oil prices and optimism over progress in U.S.-Iran peace talks.

The Hang Seng Index fell 1%, or 248.68 points, to 25,667.14, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 0.6%, or 48.10 points, to 8,555.63.

Wall Street ended mixed overnight as losses in technology shares dragged the Nasdaq lower, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at another record high.

Oil prices eased after reports of progress toward a potential agreement to end the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Investors also digested weaker-than-expected U.S. private payrolls data, which lowered expectations of a September Federal Reserve rate hike.
