Mercury General (MCY) reported Q2 operating earnings late Tuesday of $3.52 per diluted share, up from $2.67 a year earlier.
Two analysts polled by FactSet expected $2.53.
Revenue for the quarter ended June 30 was $1.68 billion, up from $1.48 billion a year ago.
One analyst expected $1.59 billion.
The company kept its quarterly dividend at $0.3175 a share, payable Sept. 24 to stockholders of record on Sept. 10.
