Venture Global Stock Falls After LNG Company Beats Earnings Estimates. Higher Costs Take a Toll.

Dow Jones
08/11

Shares of Venture Global declined Tuesday after the liquefied natural gas company missed second-quarter revenue expectations as costs increased in the quarter.

Venture Global early Tuesday posted adjusted earnings of 51 cents a share, up from 14 cents a year ago and above Wall Street's expectation for 48 cents. Revenue grew 48% to $4.58 billion but missed the analyst consensus call for $4.69 billion, according to FactSet.

Venture Global reported that lower U.S. natural gas prices in the quarter took a toll while cost of sales increased 17%. Operating and maintenance costs also grew 54% in the quarter, the company reported.

Venture Global said these cost increases were primarily due to continued ramp up of production and commissioning at its Plaquemines plant and export facility in Louisiana.

Venture Global stock declined 7.1% to $13.25 in premarket trading on Tuesday after ending Monday up 7.5%. Shares enter the trading session on Tuesday up 109% this year, outperforming the S&P 500 by a wide margin.
