U.S. Inflation Data Likely to Dominate Global Markets

0757 GMT - U.S. CPI inflation data for July, set to be released at 1230 GMT, is likely to be the main influence on global markets on Wednesday, Tickmill Group's Patrick Munnelly says in a note. The inflation data for June showed a deceleration, causing markets to cut back their expectations of Federal Reserve interest-rate rises in 2026. July CPI data could come in weaker-than-expected, "helped by more benign energy inputs during the relevant measurement window," Munnelly says. This could strengthen the case for the Fed to keep interest rates on hold in September, he says. Nonetheless, high oil prices, energy supply disruptions and resilient U.S. consumer demand mean that a Fed rate increase remains likely in 2026, Munnelly says.
