WHAT TO WATCH

--Home Depot said last week that Chief Executive Ted Decker will take a temporary medical leave. Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail and Ann-Marie Campbell, the senior executive vice president of U.S. stores and operations, will manage the company during Decker's absence. Home Depot didn't provide a reason for Decker's medical leave, and investors will be looking for any updates regarding leadership.

--Home Depot said last quarter that homeowners are pulling back on large home-improvement projects due to economic uncertainty. Investors will be looking to see whether sentiment has improved, or if continuing uncertainty continues to deter homeowners from tackling home-improvement projects.

--Traffic to both Home Depot and Lowe's was relatively stable in the second quarter, according to a recent report from Placer.ai, indicating that underlying demand for home-improvement projects is resilient despite the macroeconomic backdrop. The location-analytics firm said both chains could see visits accelerate in the back half of the year. "Growth in the second half of 2026 may come from the accumulation of deferred maintenance, or from an easing in prices and rates that finally makes bigger projects feel affordable again," the report reads. "Either could turn this plateau into a climb."
