Hyundai Motor is considering increasing production capacity at its Georgia vehicle assembly plant to as much as 800,000 vehicles annually by 2028, CNBC reported Thursday.

The automaker is considering raising planned capacity at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America to 700,000-800,000 vehicles from 500,000, Jose Munoz, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor Company, told CNBC.

The potential increase would be part of Hyundai's planned $26 billion US investment through 2028, the report said.

Hyundai aims to produce at least 80% of the vehicles it sells in the US domestically by the end of the decade, up from about 40% in 2024, CNBC said. The company later said the capacity increase remains under consideration and has not been confirmed.
