Thailand's Cabinet approved four draft capital-market laws that will update rules on digital processes, securities and derivatives businesses, secondary markets, fundraising and audit firms, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced Tuesday.

The amendments will also strengthen oversight of capital-market service providers and improve law-enforcement measures and sanctions. The proposals will allow SEC officials to participate as joint investigators in certain offences deemed to have a high impact on confidence in the capital-market system or the wider economy.

The four bills comprise amendments to the Securities and Exchange Act, Derivatives Act, Trust for Transactions in Capital Market Act and the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses.

The bills will proceed through the remaining legislative process, including parliamentary consideration, before publication in the Royal Gazette and taking effect.
