US President Donald Trump said Wednesday it was "time to teach Canada you can't do this anymore," in an interview on Glenn Beck's show, days after trade talks between the two countries collapsed.
"I had a deal, that was a pretty good deal, you know, quite good," Trump told Beck. "They don't have anything that we have to have, okay, we can get by."
Trump imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian imports on Saturday. Canada retaliated Tuesday with matching tariffs on about $20 billion of US imports, set to take effect Sept. 8.
Trump has also announced 50% tariffs on Canadian autos and parts starting Jan. 1.
