Brazil's federal government sued Discord on Wednesday, seeking 500 million reais ($97 million) in a civil public-interest lawsuit seeking compensation for collective moral damages, multiple outlets reported, citing the country's solicitor general, Jorge Messias.

The suit accuses the platform of failing to comply with Brazilian laws protecting children and women, according to the reports.

Messias said the government is also seeking a court order requiring Discord to bring its safety, age-verification and parental-control systems into compliance with Brazilian law, with a daily fine of 500,000 reais for noncompliance, the reports said.

Discord did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
