Producers of metals, grains and other raw materials were more or less flat after Kevin Warsh's debut speech at the Jackson Hole, Wyo., central-banking conference.
The odds of a rate hike at the central bank's next meeting in midSeptember rose to roughly 60% on the Fed funds futures market in the wake of the speech.
That drove up the value of the dollar, which, in turn, weighed on gold futures. Gold finished the week with a 3.3% loss but rose 11% for August to $4478.10 a troy ounce.
