Work on Trump's 250-Foot Arch in Washington to Start in Next Two Weeks

Excavation work on President Trump's 250-foot-tall arch in Washington, is expected to start over the next two weeks, the administration said Thursday.

The project, one of Trump's many so-called beautification projects in the nation's capital, is facing litigation. Opponents have argued Trump needs congressional approval to build it. The triumphal arch would block or disrupt the sightline of other historic monuments, critics have said.

The arch would sit between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island.

"This will be one of the Great Pieces of American Architecture, honoring the history and significance of Arlington Cemetery and befitting the most powerful Capital in the World," Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said Thursday on social media.

Trump's other projects include building a White House ballroom, resurfacing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and trying to add his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. All of those projects have faced legal challenges.

Burgum on Thursday posted renderings of the white arch showing "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" written in gold and a gilded Lady Liberty with wings flanked by two golden eagles on top.

Trump has been heavily involved in the project, showing reporters models of the arch in the Oval Office and posting different renderings on Truth Social.
