BWX Technologies (BWXT) was selected by the US Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration to develop a conceptual design for a new Lithium Processing Facility at the Y-12 National Security Complex, the company said Thursday.
The initial phase is a four-month, $4 million contract covering the conceptual design for the facility's Machining and Inspection Module.
NNSA plans to evaluate designs from two companies before selecting one team to proceed to contract negotiations for construction.
BWXT is working with Edgewater Technical Associates, Evans General Contractors, Process Engineering Associates, and Merrick & Co. on the project.
