Bombardier is bringing critical wing and fuselage manufacturing in-house, strengthening its supply chain amid growing demand for its Global and Challenger business jets.

The Montreal-based business jet maker said Tuesday that it has reached an agreement to acquire the Mississauga, Ontario-based assets and capabilities of MHI Canada Aerospace, absorbing its roughly 750 specialized employees. Financial details weren't disclosed, but the transaction is expected to close later this year.

Steady demand for its flagship business jets like Bombardier's Global series, coupled with a surge in military spending, has created a booming market across civil and defense aviation. But an overstretched aerospace sector has caused bottlenecks along the supply chain.

The acquisition expands Bombardier's manufacturing footprint in Canada, bringing more of the critical supply chain into its fold. MHI Canada Aerospace operates a 270,000 square-foot facility that operates alongside a 70,000-square-foot logistics center that coordinates more than 30 supply chain partners in North America. From there, MHI Canada works on Bombardier's Global and Challenger aircraft, specializing in wing assemblies, fuselage sections and flight control installations.

MHI Canada will provide support to Bombardier during the transition period to avoid disruptions to the aircraft programs.

"This agreement represents a key step in Bombardier's long-term growth strategy, strengthening critical capabilities, enhancing operational resilience and supporting the company's flexibility to meet growing customer demand," said David Murray, Bombardier's executive vice president of manufacturing and supply chain.
