Social media company Grindr said it agreed to settle alleged violations of U.K. privacy laws, and will pay a total of 26 million Great Britain pounds ($35 million) to counterparties in the case.

Grindr said the alleged conduct was related to historical data practices before 2020, when Grindr was owned and controlled by Chinese conglomerate Kunlun. The company said it was sold six years ago, and two years later publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Grindr Inc. and its Grindr LLC subsidiary were served with proceedings in British court April 2024, the company said.

The company said it disputes the allegations, but recognizes and acknowledges the distress and loss of trust expressed by some of its U.K. users regarding that pre-2020 period.

The payments to counterparties will be split in half, with the first payment being made by Dec. 31, and the second by March 31 of next year, Grindr said.

Grindr operates a social media network application for the gay, bi, trans, queer, and other members of the LGBTQ+ community.
