GameStop reported higher profit in its latest quarter, boosted by an increase in collectibles sales, and raised its full-year outlook.

The videogame retailer on Tuesday posted a second-quarter profit of $298.7 million, or 51 cents a share, compared with $168.6 million, or 31 cents a share, a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share were 27 cents.

The company's net income came within the forecast range it had given last month. At the time, the company said the guidance factored in about $238 million of net gains related to its stake in eBay.

GameStop's Chief Executive Ryan Cohen earlier this year made an unsolicited offer to buy eBay for about $56 billion, saying he saw a path to make the e-commerce company a much bigger competitor to Amazon.com. EBay later rejected Cohen's proposal, though Cohen has said he will keep trying to pursue a deal.

GameStop's second quarter revenue fell to $790.2 million from $972.2 million in the year-ago quarter. Sales declined in the company's video games segment and pre-owned and refurbished division, offsetting growth in collectibles.

The company attributed the overall topline decrease to lapping the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the year-ago quarter, as well as a dent from store closures of the divestiture of its operations in France.

For the fiscal year, GameStop now expects adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in excess of $650 million, compared with its prior outlook from June for more than $600 million.
