Rent the Runway named a new chief executive and logged higher sales in the fiscal second quarter.
The clothing-rental company said Friday that Paige Thomas was appointed as chief executive. She succeeds Teri Bariquit, who has been serving in as interim CEO since co-founder Jennifer Hyman stepped down in May.
Bariquit has been named nonexecutive chair of the board, and executive chair Dhiren Fonseca is stepping down from that role but remains a member of the board, the company said.
Thomas has been serving as chief commercial officer at Rent the Runway since June. She previously served as chief merchant and product innovation officer at Signet Jewelers, and was chief executive of Saks Off 5th before that. She also spent several years in leadership roles at Nordstrom.
The company also on Friday reported that revenue climbed 21% to $97.7 million in the fiscal second quarter.The average number of active subscribers during the quarter was 1% higher than the year before, while active subscribers at the end of the quarter were down 3.8% compared with the prior year.
Rent the Runway's loss narrowed to $12.9 million, or 38 cents a share, compared with a loss of $26.4 million, or $6.23 a share, a year earlier.
For the third quarter, the company expects revenue to be $87 million to $90 million.
Shares were up 9.2% to $3.08 in premarket trading.
