Woolworths Group Rejects Media Report Alleging Increase in Shelf Prices for Products on Price Freeze Program

Woolworths Group (ASX:WOW) rejected reports by the Guardian Australia on its three-month price freeze between May 1 and Aug. 1, adding that the prices of any of the 300 products put on the price freeze did not rise above their shelf price during that period, according to a Monday statement.

In the examples cited by Guardian Australia of the alleged increased prices, the products had been on a temporary promotion with lower prices, but there was no increase in the shelf price.

When the retailer had announced the price freeze program, it had said the shelf price of the products would not increase during the period, but they would be eligible for lower, promotional prices for certain periods, the statement added.

Its shares rose 1% in recent trading on Monday.
