Sharp Enters AI Server Business in Japan

Sharp (TYO:6753) has started taking orders for AI servers equipped with NVIDIA technology in Japan as it looks to penetrate the business amid rising demand for AI infrastructure, according to a Tuesday release.

The business will cater to companies, local governments, research institutions, data operators and others.

The initial orders were for the AI server for business, which features the NVIDIA RTX Pro server.

The electronics company will also begin taking orders for the AI server dedicated to large-scale learning and reasoning, which uses the NVIDIA HGX system, by fiscal 2027.

The company signed agreements with distributors Daiwabo Information System and Ryokan Hishiyo for the business' sales system and Tomorrow Net for operation and maintenance.

The company will also cooperate with Taiwan-based Hon Hai Technology Group (TPE:2317), or Foxconn, to address the supply of major components such as GPUs.

Shares of the electronics company rose more than 1% in recent trade.
