SK Group's planned Ulsan AI data center is closing in on a 900 megawatt capacity expansion, The Korea Times reported Sunday, citing Chairman Chey Tae-won.

The company is fast advancing discussions with global technology companies as it looks to transform the city into a manufacturing AI hub, the report cited Tae-won's statement in a forum.

The AI data center, a partnership between the company's telecom subsidiary SK Telecom (KRX:017670) and Amazon Web Services, plans to start operations in the second half of 2027, the report said.

The company expanded the planned capacity for the site to 1 gigawatt from 100 megawatts originally and also looks to develop capacity exceeding 2 gigawatts for the South and North Gyeongsang provinces, the report said.
