TradingKey - On September 14, Eastern Time, Apple (AAPL) released iOS 27, and Siri AI began rolling out in an English beta on the same day. Apple plans to add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October.

Eligible users need to join a waitlist after enabling Siri AI, and wait times vary. The feature supports iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 series or newer models, and iPhone Air. It is currently not available in mainland China; in the European Union, the initial rollout does not support iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Siri AI Enhances Personal Context and Cross-App Actions

Apple unveiled Siri AI on June 8 and released an English beta version to users on September 14. The updated Siri can search for information relevant to user needs across Messages, Mail, and Photos, recognize on-screen content, and perform tasks such as sending messages, creating calendar events, drafting emails, and editing photos.

Siri AI is supported only on devices capable of running Apple Intelligence. The corresponding hardware requirements may increase the willingness of older-model users to upgrade, and the market will evaluate its actual impact based on Siri AI usage and new iPhone sales.

Apple confirmed that its next-generation Apple foundation models were developed in collaboration with Google and its Gemini model, with the relevant models running on-device and on Private Cloud Compute servers.

Siri AI also uses a system orchestrator to invoke the on-device Spotlight index and App Toolbox to retrieve information and execute cross-app operations.

Can Siri AI Drive iPhone Upgrades and AI Subscriptions?

The hardware threshold for Siri AI may increase the willingness of some users with older models to upgrade their iPhones, but the initial beta version remains subject to language, region, and waitlist restrictions. Its effectiveness in driving upgrades remains to be verified by feature adoption rates and sales of new iPhone models.

Apple stated that certain Apple Intelligence features relying on server-side models, such as Siri AI, have daily usage limits, and paid expanded access will be provided in the future. Pricing schedules, launch dates, and subscription methods have not yet been announced, nor has the company separately disclosed revenue generated by AI features.

Sales performance of supported models, upgrade rates among users of older devices, Siri AI adoption rates, and progress in paid services will serve as the primary metrics for measuring their contribution to Apple's hardware and services revenue.
