China's total social financing (TSF), a broad measure of credit and liquidity in the economy, rose to 1.66 trillion yuan in August, according to data from the People's Bank of China (PBOC) on Monday.

While the figure was up from 1.41 trillion yuan the previous month, it missed the consensus forecast of 2.04 trillion yuan tracked by Investing.com.

Outstanding total social financing grew 7.2% year over year to 464.8 trillion yuan at the end of August, driven primarily by government bond sales and corporate bond sales, which jumped 13.5% and 9.7%, respectively.

For the first eight months of the year, total social financing stood at 23.91 trillion yuan.
