Charles Schwab's stock was rising Tuesday morning after it reported hauling in $64.8 billion in core net new assets, a record for the month of August. Shares were up 0.4% early Tuesday morning; the benchmark S&P 500 index was down 0.5%.

Analysts watch the company's asset-gathering figures closely to see how quickly Schwab is growing. Schwab's latest monthly activity report showed that it continues to attract new customers and win business from existing clients. The company said customers opened 424,000 new brokerage accounts in August, an increase of 11% compared with August 2025.

Customers also traded more on margin, meaning they borrowed from Schwab to buy stocks. Margin loan balances reached $177.6 billion, up 58% from the end of last year. Daily average trades, a brokerage industry metric for investor activity, were 9.8 million in August. That is down 16% from July but up 37% from August 2025.

Bill Katz, analyst at TD Cowen, views the August monthly report "favorably," and reiterated his Buy rating on Schwab stock.

Schwab is one of the nation's largest brokerage and wealth management companies, with $13.4 trillion in total client assets. It serves millions of individual investors, offering them brokerage and wealth management services. It also serves thousands of registered investment advisors, providing them with a trading platform and safeguarding client assets on their behalf.

Other brokerage and wealth management companies such as Robinhood Markets and Morgan Stanley have also reported robust client activity, with rising margin balances and strong asset-gathering.

Schwab also reported that transactional sweep cash increased $6.5 billion to end August at $483.3 billion, driven by client demand for long-short strategies. RIAs have helped fuel that demand because they use those strategies to help wealthy clients minimize capital-gains taxes. Earlier this month, Schwab said it would sharply raise the minimum asset requirement to fund long/short separately managed accounts to $10 million from $1 million.
