Loudoun County, Virginia, has advanced a measure that would pause reviews of new data center and substation applications for up to 12 months, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

The proposal, backed by seven of nine county supervisors, could affect about 13 applications awaiting planning commission review, the report said. A formal resolution is expected to be considered in October.

Loudoun County has 233 data centers built or under construction, according to the report. The county's data center expansion has generated about 17,000 jobs and is projected to provide $1.3 billion in local tax revenue for fiscal 2027, Bloomberg reported.

The proposed pause comes amid resident concerns over noise, proximity to homes and electrical infrastructure, the report said.
